Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent

“Learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart,” says the Lord to all those who labor and are burdened. What’s the lesson to be learned? Well, on the one hand our fatigue and our stress can quite often come from our lack of meekness and humility. An oft-hidden sense of pride operating within us can set up unnecessarily lofty expectations for what we need to, how we are to perform, and what the outcome should be. All this is a great weight to carry! On the other hand, it is often those who are truly meek and humble which are given the most burdensome tasks in life.

Jesus promises us all a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. By following his example, we can let go of the unnecessary burden of pride and help all those who have heavy burdens thrust upon them.
