Saturday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Thanks to the woman in today ‘s Gospel, who called out blessing Jesus’ mother. Her action inspired him to bless the Blessed Virgin, the exemplar of the church, he was about to found, and all its faithful members as well.

Imagine what a great, constant joy it was for Mary to have been chosen to be mother of the Messiah, to have given life to the man who would be so honored.

From the day of the Incarnation to Good Friday, her will was to do the will of God. She placed herself totally at his service. As such she is the model for all.

Like Mary, every Christian is called to hear the word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to place it deep in his heart. That is the way he will come to know and do the will of the Father, who created him, and to see that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life to joy.

St. Paul reminds us in the 1st reading that because we were baptized into Christ’s life; we are members of Christ’s body, the Church, and so, we can appreciate better Christ’s response to the woman in the Gospel: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Resolve:  In a spirit of thanksgiving for the many graces the Lord has given me, I shall ask him for the grace to know and thank him better, and I shall say a special prayer to our Blessed Mother for the many people who do not know him, that she will “do something about it.”
