Today we continue our privileged experience of hearing Jesus’ prayer to the Father. What we find is a prayer of gratitude and desire that transcends time and space. Our Lord’s prayer for his disciples extends to us when He says, "I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word.” Centuries later, here we are, still benefiting from that prayer that flowed from his Sacred Heart. “Father, they are your gift to me,” he continues. We are a gift, and all he wishes to do with us is to share his glory.
The prayer and sensibility of Christ puts our lives in perspective. We are the fruit of this prayer and all those who have transmitted it to us. We are a gift. Each person that we encounter today is a gift to our Lord and they are called to share in his glory. If we can begin to believe this, if we can help them believe it, then through the gift of grace, we will do our part to answer the prayer of our Lord.
