What was necessary for Christ to work miracles? Faith. How often he instructed his apostles to strengthen the little faith they had. Why does the Church today make little progress in making Christ known? A lack of faith.
And what about me? That’s the question I’ll ask myself and beg the Lord, who cured the little girl described in today’s Gospel, to strengthen my faith with an abundance of his grace so as to realize my lack of faith.
The girl’s father can be my coach. He had recourse to Jesus with unalloyed confidence. He knew Jesus could do something. At the same time, he was aware of his own weak faith and so, he asked Jesus to strengthen it.
The 1st reading in today’s Mass is about wisdom. What is wisdom? It is the art of knowing how to live a faith-filled life with knowledge and prudence. It encourages me to reflect on who I am, what I have been called to become, and faith to choose or reject whatever will lead to achieve that goal.
Reflection: Both the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph are the ideal models of openness to faith and wisdom. I shall ask each how to obtain for me grace from Jesus to follow their example in all that I do and to bring what they teach me to others.
