“The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:11-12)
How did Christ come among us? As Jesus reminded the disciples at the Last Supper, “I am among you as the one who serves.” (Luke 22:27) If we really wish to be numbered among those for whose sake Christ has come, if we really want to show Him our love, if we want to reign with Him one day in heaven, then we must follow Him. How does He lead? He shows us to serve. He humbles Himself completely. (Philippians 2:5-8) If our gaze is fixed on Christ who serves, what shall we do? Let us pray to see how Christ is calling each of us to humble ourselves, to look for someone who is not demanding a footwash but who certainly needs one, and to let God be with us so as to work through us in serving that person today.
