Tuesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Just as at times we stand in need of encouragement to turn away from sin and towards the Lord, so too at times we need reassurance when trying to do what is good and pleasing to God. Peter says to Our Lord, “We have given up everything and followed you.” (Mark 10:28) Peter may have felt the particular weight of his sacrifices at that moment. He opens up his weighted heart to Christ, and Our Lord speaks from the fullness of His generous heart: no one will give up any good for the sake of Christ and of the Gospel who will not receive one hundred fold in return in this present age (along with persecutions) and eternal life in the age to come. (Mark 10:29-30)
As we prepare to make our own sacrifices this Lent, let us consider no matter what difficulty we face in our sacrifices for Our Lord in this season, for our families who He calls us to care for, and for those neighbors who are in need, no matter what we sacrifice for God and His beloved children, Christ stands ready to give even more. Let us simply remain focused on Him, that what sacrifices we make, we make them truly for the sake of Jesus, in honor of the One who loves us and gives generously for us.
