Monday after Epiphany
The Light of the World has withdrawn to Capernaum, to shine in a land of gloom where people suffered in so many ways. He brought healing and comfort to those suffering in body, and freedom to those suffering in mind and soul. Just as the magi came from the east following the star, “…great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan…” not only to see the Light, but to let it illuminate the darkness within their very selves: “…the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light.” That same Light dwells within the tabernacles of our churches, shines upon us in every sacrament. “Come,” the carol says, “let us adore Him!”
