Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today’s first reading recounts how Moses heard the voice of God through the burning bush. This is a key moment in salvation history.  This is the call of Moses by God to take the people of Israel out of bondage and towards a life marked by a deeper relationship and a life of concern for their fellowmen and women.  In this call we can identify the message of the prophets which will follow Moses: Love of God and love of neighbor.

The work of Moses and the prophets was fulfilled in Christ and this work continues by means of the Church. The call of Moses to bring others to God was fulfilled by Christ but it is a mission in which we all share. In short, the call of Moses to bring justice, is what is due to God and to our fellow men and women.  This is our call as well.
