26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light … To him be honor and eternal power.”
God is at the same time hidden and obvious. He dwells in unapproachable light, beyond the limits of our understanding and utterly inaccessible to our senses. Yet His effects are everywhere around us and every one of them proclaims the identity of their maker, if we only listen.
Take this as an analogy. I was once visiting Chicago and had a few hours to spare before meeting up with friends, so I decided to wander around downtown and see a few sights. At one point, I wondered how far away I was from the Sears tower. Just as I began wondering where it was, I realized that I was staring straight at it, though it looked like every other building from my perspective! Craning my neck, I was able to see the building now for what it was.
In a similar way, we live our entire lives staring straight at the effects of God. Let us recognize them for what they are and listen to the message they proclaim about their Creator, who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
