Speak up!
If there were any theme that arises in my heart as I read today’s parable about hiding one’s light under a bushel basket, it is just that: speak up!
It is too easy for Christians to assume that “God will take care of everything.” As the culture strays farther away from Christianity and more outrageous things are said and done against the Faith, we look for ways to justify silence. We lapse into the mindset that if we just stay nice and do not offend anyone, then we have done our Christian duty.
But Jesus does not seem content with silently watching life from the sidelines. Whether in words or in actions, Jesus spoke out. Otherwise they would not have persecuted him. So today, let us commit ourselves to speaking out.
