Thursday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off…

…And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off…

…And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.

Jesus saves.  We do not save ourselves.  Yet, as God’s beloved children with the freedom to choose Him in love, we participate in Christ’s saving act.

Lord, my sins repeat themselves, over and over again.  You know what I need to pluck out and cut out of my life.  Give me the clarity of vision to see what’s beneath my sinfulness.

Is it a desire to be loved, a need to be needed?

Is it a poor self image or a damaged self esteem?

Is it anger or frustration, stress or anxiety, a lack of faith or of hope?

Is it something I’ve allowed others to forgive but I can’t allow you to forgive, let alone myself?

No matter what it is, Lord, I believe that you can save me, if you wish.  Come into my life, Lord, and save me!  Be my sure help, the One who believes in me, trusts me, and loves me.
