Wednesday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus is Truth because he talked the talk and walked the walk. Everything he taught he put into practice. In developing the comparison between the tree and the fruit he calls to my attention that sincerity is better expressed in actions than in words.
In today’s Gospel Jesus denounces false prophets, that is, those who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. How easy it is to be a false prophet. What is the litmus test for sincerity, for avoiding being a false prophet? Isn’t it trying to put a good face on the sincerity of others while holding my own motives suspect? Fidelity to the Truth, who lives within me, will purify my heart.
All, irrespective of our state of life, are called to allow the Holy Spirit to plant and cultivate the seed of the Gospel message within us, but whether that seed produces good fruit or bad depends on us. Each day we should pray to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to help us, to show us the way.
