Friday of the Twenty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

On this day, the Missionaries of Charity and the Church in India celebrate the feast of Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997). Today we can recall as Mother Teresa did the great thirst for love which God has.It was the words of our Lord on the cross, “I thirst”, which urged Mother Teresa onto such great service of Christ and of the poor.

A very important part of following Jesus, which all the saints exemplify and which the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa dedicate themselves to, is a concrete love for those who are poor. Mother Teresa was one who has let the words of Christ sink into her heart, “Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did it for me.” (Mt 25:40)

The very reason why an institution for helping those in need is called a “charity” is because it is to be an instrument of the charity, or the love, which God has for us. Today let us ask ourselves how we are seeking to quench God’s thirst for love like Mother Teresa did. How can we give God our love by helping the least of His brothers? A way to start may be by offering Bl. Teresa’s prayer: “Jesus in my heart, I believe in your faithful love for me. I offer you my love. Amen.”
