Wednesday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time

Jesus refuses to give an estimation of the number saved. He tells us what is more important is the way that leads to eternal happiness. All are called but getting there is never easy. Together we pilgrims must make the effort each day with generosity, and it is in prayer that we come to know him, who is “the Way, the Truth and the Light”.

It is not enough to belong to “the People of God” to be saved. That was the drama of ancient Israel and of those who refuse an encounter with the Lord in the depths of their heart. To pray daily means to desire an encounter with The Light and The Truth. To refuse to pray means we risk turning off from the narrow path into darkness where we stumble and lose our Way. Pray today for Mary’s aid.

Only the Lord allows those he knows to enter through the narrow door. But the job description of Mary, our mother, is to “pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.” In other words, she is the one who can stuff in more through that door than we can imagine. One day, please God, as we lick the bruises we got being squeezed through that narrow door, we’ll be able to know how well she has done her job. Pray today for Mary’s aid.
