Friday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Today is Black Friday, the day when millions of Americans head to the mall, complete with the scenes of shoppers camping out in front of stores, bowling over security guards, and pushing and shoving the day after Thanksgiving.
As we are in the very last week of the liturgical year, most of the scripture readings emphasize the final judgment, the cosmic struggle, and the end of the world. On this Black Friday, lets imagine you had a serious disease and you will die within a month. What would be the things that you would want to do on your last Black Friday? Are there any particular items that you want to buy? Or perhaps you can max out your credit cards and take all the loans that are offered to you and use them up too. A month is a long time to live; you can definitely travel to countries where on any Friday, citizens wait in line to receive food because their guts are busting with hunger and millions of people camp out all night hoping one day they will own a home.
