Monday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time
While the last book of the Bible presents the image of Jesus knocking at the door of our heart (Revelation 3:20), the first book of the Bible presents this striking image of sin as a demon lurking at the door (Genesis 4:7). Combining these images together, let us take courage to let Christ into our hearts so when the demon tries to enter, Christ the Great Doormaster, can answer and protect us from the perils outside.
Like Jesus asked the Pharisees years ago, a similar question can be asked of us: “what sign are you looking for” (Mark 8:12)? Are we looking for a billboard from God telling us to live our lives, or an email from God directing us to mend our lives, or a storm when the heavens open and we hear God’s voice? God displays God’s self in small ways such in the beauty of the sunrise or the unexpected call from a friend. Let us take a moment today to recognize these small signs.
