Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter

“…he will testify to me. And you also testify…” (John 15:26-27) What the Spirit does is what we are to do. When the Lord shares with us the truth of His Love, we are to share that same truth with others. This was certainly the modus operandi of St. Paul. In Philippi he went “where we thought there would be a place of prayer” (Acts 16:13) and sought to pray and converse with whomever he found there on the edge of the city.

We also see the Spirit at work in Lydia who listens to Paul’s preaching and asks to be baptized. She invites Paul and the itinerant Christians who were with him to stay in her home. As the Lord first invited others to come and stay with him (John 1:39), so, too, do those in whose hearts His Spirit dwells. So, we can ask ourselves how will we welcome those whom the Lord sends us this day? We may not encounter itinerant apostles such as Paul, but perhaps there are other friends in the Lord with whom we can welcome more deeply into our lives, perhaps even sharing with them our dinner table. Let us pray for the grace of hospitality, the grace to use our friendship and even our homes to show God’s love to others.
