Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
The Vow is an American romance that is based on the actual relationship of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. Ten weeks after their wedding, the couple was involved in a serious car accident. Krickitt suffered a brain trauma, which erased all memories of her romance with Kim as well as their marriage. Krickitt viewed her husband as a stranger after the accident. Her doctor give her 18 months to remember memories lost after her traumatic brain injury. But she could not recover her memories and the doctor said they are probably gone for good. Kim decided to stay with his wife because he made a vow “until death do us part.” Although there was time he thought it might be over, but he wasn’t going anywhere until she was capable of taking care herself. The couple is still together and they have two children. Krickitt still has no memory of surrounding her meeting, dating, and marrying her husband, but she has built 20 years of good memories with her husband.
Each of us as baptized Christians might also have amnesia about our baptismal vow. We might forget that we are bound to love God. What we remember is simply Our Father who art in facebook, thy web site come, thy net be done, give us this day our daily apps and deliver us from e-vil. In the Gospel reading today, Jesus tried to bring back our memories by reminding us we must love him with all our heart, with all our understanding, with all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. By loving our neighbors we can demonstrate how much we love God. Do we really want to build a new good memory with God by aiding our neighbor with prayers, teaching, and alms giving?
