Saturday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

Here again we have a continuation of yesterday’s theme. In the Gospel Jesus tells me whatever I do has real or potential value now and forever. Result: I must constantly prune away whatever prevents me becoming what the Lord dreamt I would be while I was in my bassinet. So pruning clippers are as essential as encouraging new growths.

Paul tells me in today’s 1st reading how to focus my vision to achieve better this end: “Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Of these I myself am the worst.” Paul’s disciple, Luke, never tires of repeating this theme in his Gospel and in the Acts. So, for starters, I will reread Chapter 15 in his Gospel with this theme in mind

Next, my prayer might be to ask the Lord to brand on my subconscious these words of Paul as I go about trying to implement the solid foundation blueprint Jesus speaks about at the end of today’s Gospel. I will also ask Mary to pray for me and for all sinners, particularly those who don’t even know that they are sinners, and to Joseph too, for the ability to follow a blueprint.
