Friday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time
When I was in college, I drifted away from my Catholic faith. After I graduated from college, I went further away from the Church. For five years I was in a spiritual wilderness. After a time, I started to attend mass regularly simply because my then girlfriend invited me to go to church with her. As my attendance at the mass became more frequent, slowly the word of God penetrated my heart and allowed me reflect on how much God loves me. Finally, I decided to go to confession for the first time in five years.
In the scripture reading today, we hear a striking image of dry bones coming into life through the power of the word of God. Pause for a moment and reflect on your life experience. Is there any situation in your own life when things changing from being hopeless to hopeful or from lifeless into full of life? If you cannot find any moment of transformation in your life, perhaps you could look around at your friends or your family. Is there a time of transformation in their lives from a dispiriting life to a livelier one? Could you see the power of The Word of God in that transformative experience?
