Feast of Saint Matthew, Apostle and evangelist
In today’s Gospel we learn that Jesus sent out his apostles to preach the Kingdom of God. The lesson is that each one of us is called, according to his or her particular vocation, to preach the same good news.
How do I know how I am expected to fulfill this mission? The Holy Spirit has been given to me to inspire me what to do and how to do it. He gives me light and strength. That is why it is no necessary for me to pray frequently to the Holy Spirit for guidance, discernment and a firm resolve.
To be a faithful disciple also means I should have the freedom that enables me to put up with frustrations and failures, to see that, like Jesus my model, I associate with all types of people. If it is I, who by my words and actions spread the seed, it is the Father who gives growth.
My prayer is to be, like Jesus, at the disposal of the Father, and it is the Spirit who will guide me how to do so.
