Memorial of St. Catherine of Alexandria

Jesus’ message in today’s gospel is cryptic. He tells us to be attentive to the events that the media highlights in our socio-economic world to discern in them the running sap, the source of vitality of his ever-growing, evolving kingdom.

Change is the constant medium in our world. Haven’t the recent elections told me so? The sole constant is the Word of the Lord. This word gives eternal life. It nourishes us, makes us Christians; it lights up our path and gives us balance in weighing messages from the media.

To the extent that I am faithful to the Gospel, that I am motivated by the living Word of God, I progress in self-knowledge and in relating realistically to the changing world about me.

Today I shall pray that the Holy Spirit make me aware of these truths, these words of Jesus in today’s gospel.
