Tuesday of the First Week of Advent

“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.” ( Lk 10:23)

One hearing today’s Gospel might object and say, ‘but my eyes do not see what the first disciples saw.’ While this is true in a way, we also do see what the disciples saw, and we are able to see far more of the work that Christ has done throughout history and in our own day. In order to foster the desire that Christ come, we need to pay attention to the work that He has already done in the hearts and lives of so many who have loved Him.

Christ has bestowed His Spirit with its gifts of wisdom and strength on many. He continues to offer it to us. Let us look again at Scripture, at the lives of the Saints, at the history of the Lord’s work. As we do, we will see the patterns which Isaiah describes: one who judges the poor with justice, who strikes the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, who by his words and deeds brings the world closer to the peace of the Kingdom. (Is 11:4-9) Let us seek to cooperate with the just work of God, so that we may show a true desire for the peace that He alone can bring.
