Memorial of Saint Agatha, Virgin and Martyr
As soon as Jesus arrived at his destination the people brought the sick to him.
There is something about this dynamic that reminds me of my prayer. Like the people in the Gospel, I spend so much of my day immersed in distractions: people, projects, duties – all rustling about me.
For this reason I can identify with all those people. Yet in all the bustle they recognized him. Why? Because that is where he appeared, and that is where he appears in my life, now.
I’ll greet him when I pull myself out of bed, asking him to let me recognize him during the day when I am surrounded with people and projects.
In between distractions I’ll thank him quickly for all he has done for me. Then in my prayer I’ll bring others to him, especially my relatives, friends, those I love and those who have special need of his healing.
