Tuesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Those who are perfect do not need a savior. In today’s Gospel, Peter, through his fear and doubt, demonstrates his need of salvation. Like him, we too can carry the wound of fear and doubt. This wound, alluded to in the first reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah, has been with us since the fall when sin entered our world. It’s the wound that makes us doubt how marvelously made we are. It makes us feel unworthy of love and places us constantly in a place of fear and doubt.

Jesus has come to save us and to heal our wounds, to make us whole, holy, perfect in his love. Fear and doubt will no doubt assail us in our faith journey, but like Peter, we must call to the Lord, who will no doubt, save us from falling. Lord Jesus, save us, be our Savior today and forever.
