Memorial of Saint Dominic, Priest

Today, we take for granted the fact that within the Body of Christ, which is the Church, there is no difference between Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man. This was not as clear during the times of Jesus. And yet a Canaanite woman, an outsider, comes to Jesus and asks for his help. Despite the norms of the time, she insists, to which Christ responds, “O woman, great is your faith!” and grants her what she desires. This passage is an example for us of what great faith in Jesus looks like and an illustration of the all-encompassing nature of Jesus’ salvation.

St. Dominic, who we celebrate today, was a man of great faith who preached tirelessly adding members to the Body of Christ and working to keep its integrity. May, we too, be people of great faith in Jesus and may we believe and share the good news of Jesus’ salvation with all those we meet.
