Memorial of Saint Clare, virgin
“Nothing will be impossible for you,” Jesus says to those who have faith in him. St. Clare of Assisi was a woman who believed this to be true. After establishing a deep friendship with St. Francis of Assis in which St. Clare asked him to help her live out the Gospel, Clare dedicated herself to a life of holiness and joined a convent.
One of the most famous stories of the saint is when an army of soldiers came to attack Assisi. Clare stood at the gates of her convent carrying the Blessed Sacrament and prayed to God that her sisters remain safe from the attackers. Suddenly, the soldiers who saw the saint were filled with great fear and fled Assisi without hurting anyone. As we contemplate the lives of the saints, may our faith grow. May we ask the Lord to increase our faith in those moments of doubt. And, like St. Clare, may we stay close to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. St. Clare, pray for us!
