Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Scientists have discovered that fetal DNA cells move into a mother’s body from the very beginning of pregnancy; migrate through her body, and become part of her heart, brains and blood for the rest of her life. It is called Microchimerism. (Consolation for those who have had a miscarriage; more suffering for those who have had an abortion).
This means that the cells of Jesus remained in Mary ever after the Incarnation. All the more reason why she was assumed into heaven when her time on earth came to an end.
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leapt in her womb,” and she cried: “Blessed is the fruit of your womb.” So the womb is a sign of hope. For Mary, that hope was fulfilled in the Assumption, which for us is the sign of our own destiny. “Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.”
