Tuesday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
If you want to know someone, you should generally talk to them. Most of us have probably had the experience where we have heard about someone, but when we finally get to meet them, they are different than what we imagined. People are complex, and the rumors and stories we hear usually don’t do them justice. This is true for us, and this is true for God. This is why “no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God” (1 Cor. 2:12). If we want to know God, we need to receive God’s Spirit.
Most of us praying here can say we do know God at least a little. We have come to know God in various ways throughout our lives through our experiences of Him. If so, then we can truly say that we have experienced God’s Spirit at work in us. There may be times when God seems distant, or when we aren’t sure if He really cares about us, but as long as we can say that we know God, we have evidence in our own lives that God is at work within us. God’s presence in us is no mere theory, but a reality with effects that we can point to. God is truly present in each of our hearts, and for that, we can rejoice.
