Memorial of Saint Lucy, Virgin and Martyr
Saint Lucy, the fourth-century martyr whom the Church commemorates today, is the patron saint of the visually impaired. Perhaps you or someone who you are close to suffers from some form of vision loss and turn to St. Lucy for her intercession. But beyond the physical impairments that may exist in life, there is also frequently a spiritual blindness that we may experience when we fail to see the action of God in our lives. It’s something no one is exempt from experiencing. Some of us more frequently than others.
With this in mind, the word of the Lord that comes to us from the prophet Isaiah takes on a new light. “I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, “Fear not, I will help you.”
It is the Lord who guides us, holding us by the hand, offering us comfort and safety, even when we are unable to fully see his wonders. Even when we are unable to see, to understand such things as “the least in Kingdom of heaven is greater” than John the Baptist.
May his radiant light, through the intercession of St. Lucy, shine upon us, so that we might see more clearly the mysteries and wonders of the Lord and his Kingdom.
