Monday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel we find Jesus continuing his ministry of healing in a world that is sick and broken by the wound of corruption. It is a world that God fashioned beautifully with his hands as we hear in the first reading from the book of Genesis. He regarded his creation and “saw how good it was.” But sin would soon enter it and deform its original splendor.
In his great love and mercy, however, God sent us his only begotten son, born of a woman, who would become our teacher, healer, savior. Today our world is still broken. Sin, corruption, and woundedness still remain in our spirits, bodies, and minds. But to Christ we hold fast, knowing that he was sent to us precisely to offer us healing, the fullness of life. On a day like today, when we also commemorate Our Lady of Lourdes, let us ask her for her intercession in the healing of our lives and our world. Pray for us oh holy mother of God that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
