Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, Apostle

In today’s Gospel Jesus asks the Apostles the same question he asks me: “Who do you say that I am?”  My answer has to be a personal response. Is he the savior who can transform me, make me eager to follow him? Even in suffering; in facing those bumps of life I meet?

A ‘yes’ demands faith. But faith does not come from me. It comes from God the Father. Do I ever thank my Heavenly for the faith I have and ask him to increase it, particularly when I have to face suffering, frustration, disappointment and the like?

After questioning the apostles in today’s Gospel, Jesus gave each one a mission. I look over my life and see that the Lord has given me various missions too, and that the more my faith developed the clearer those different missions have become. What is my mission today? Do I pray for the knowledge to know it; for the faith to preform it as He wills?

In the Gospel, Jesus gave Peter and his successors the charge to govern the Church, or [if you will] to steer the Arc to its designed port. Each member of the Church is given the same charge to bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. For me, this is done by joining my mission to the mission of others through my prayers and actions for the welfare of the Church, the Body of Christ.
