Saturday of the Seventh Week of Ordinary Time
“In his own image he made him […] with wisdom he fills their heart; good and evil he shows them. (Sir 17) The Lord does indeed impart His wisdom to us, and our possession of that wisdom is quite constituitive of our being made in His image. He thus also gives us a great responsibility: to be wise in our relationship to Him, always relying on Him; to be wise in our relationship to the world; to imitate His love to the world. “All their actions are clear as the sun to him, his eyes are ever upon their ways.” (Sir 17) Comforting and sobering words. May we be both sobered and comforted by the Lord’s constant gaze. He knows us with more knowledge than we know ourselves. Our shortness of time on this earth, our complexities of motivation in acting, our real need for Him are infinitely clear in His eyes. The more we ask for and adopt His point of view, the more fruit we can bear in life and in His service. But what is His point of view?
“‘Whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.’ Then he embraced the children and blessed them, placing his hands on them.” Again, the Lord teaches us with His words, with whom He sets before the apostles, literally with His embrace and blessing, how we are to be truly wise: be little, be needy, be sincere before the Lord as little children. In this we will find Him, the only truly wise and awe-inspiring one, and only in Him and with Him can we hope for greatness, strength and true wisdom. In sum, let us be like Mary. She who so trusted in the Lord, who was so attentive to His word and workings, who believed that what was said to her by the Lord would be fulfilled. Immaculate Heart of Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us!
