Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord
Tucked frequently within the season of Lent, the Annunciation does not receive the importance that it is due. Today’s solemnity recall’s God’s love of Humanity in the face of that same humanity’s constant rejection of his divine plan. The feast also recalls how the dignity of the human body was used as a means of achieving our salvation. The feast also recalls the great yes of Mary, a yes we are called to imitate, so that like her, we can make the presence of God more present to ourselves and others. The great depths of the Annunciation provide us ample opportunity to reflect on the dignity of the human person, the love and the mercy of God, and the person of Mary who stands as our image of our human nature freely cooperating with divine Grace.
