It is Holy Thursday. The hour has come. Jesus, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power, uses that power to give himself fully to the ones he loves, both through his body and blood in the holy Eucharist and through the washing of the feet, a humble service.
“Do you realize what I have done for you?” Jesus asks. He wants his friends, who often miss the point, to fully understand what is happening. He affirms his titles of “teacher” and “master” and prompts his disciples to follow his example. The lesson could not be clearer. Love to the end, humbly serve, give of your life, following the example of Christ. This is what we are called to do. Lord Jesus, strengthen us in our desire to follow you.
