Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle

I love plenty of things in life: family, friends, special memories and places. Hopefully this is true for all of us. But I cannot say that I love anyone so much that we are an inseparable and perfect community, perhaps even one in being. This is the love that the Father has for Son. Jesus tells the apostles “as the Father loves me, so I also love you” (Jn. 15:9). God the Son loves us with the same strength and intensity that God the Father loves Him. We are being invited into the Trinity.

This must stop us dead in our tracks. Our whole lives should be different. We are being invited to share in the love of the Holy Trinity, and so is everyone else. Some do remain in Jesus’ love, but all are invited to share in it—everyone has the potential to be surrounded by the love of the Trinity. When we act, even in private, we should be mindful of this. When we interact with others, we should always seek to remind them of this. God offers us a greater love than we have ever known. Spreading the truth of this love is the charge Jesus gave to the apostles, and it is now our charge today.
