Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter
Today’s gospel (John 17:20-26) contains some of the most profound and sublime words in any sacred text, in any religious tradition. They contain in them the very heart of our faith, that union with God that starts in the love union between the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit and continues to unite all of those who believe, and all of those who will believe, with God and one another through that same love that exists from before the foundation of the world. God wishes to speak to you in a special way today through this gospel. As we expectantly await the coming of Pentecost, let us prepare our hearts today by simply re-reading quietly this gospel and inviting God to open our ears and our hearts to this prayer of the Son to the Father for us.
