“Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.” So often petty jealousy or vain curiosity can get in the way of the simple obedience to which we are called. Let us enter, with Peter, into the invitation found in John 21:20-25 and ask for the grace to simply be faithful to the Lord when he comes, in every moment of every day. Then, perhaps, we will become more like the beloved disciple who remains with and in the Lord until he comes, and who, in that remaining, comes to know more profoundly the glory that is expressed in works so numerous that the whole world could not contain the works that could be written about them.
