The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Did the disciples ever doubt the words of Jesus? After all, who was this Father that he always mentioned? Who was this Spirit that he always promised? There must have been something in the eyes of Christ that undoubtedly conveyed passion, truth and trust. It’s what drew his disciples to enter into relationship with him and to desire relationship with this Father and this Spirit.
We are by nature social and relationship-oriented. We crave and, indeed, need love from our parents, our spouses, our children, and our friends. But even in those years, those seasons, those fleeting moments in which we might feel completely satisfied with the loving relationships we experience in life, there is still a hole in our hearts that only God can fill.
We are relationship-oriented. So is God. God is relationship – a relationship of love between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Today the Church invites us to contemplate this mystery and to let God, three in one, enter more deeply into our hearts, that we may be filled with abundant life, abundant love.
