Tuesday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time
There’s a pithy phrase that captures the reality of our broken world: hurt people hurt people. That is to say those who have wounds in their hearts are prone to wound others. This is the world we are born into and not one of us is exempt from being both a victim and perpetrator of hurt.
Perfectly aware of our state, God, in his infinite mercy sent his only begotten son to show us how to end our vicious cycle of hurt. Rather than responding with hatred or aggression to those who have hurt us, Jesus calls us to respond with love and prayer. This means taking a step back and realizing that our enemies, those who wound us are living their lives with a wounded heart. Healing and mercy is what their hearts, as well as our own, need. When we fix our eyes on Christ, we can become agents of mercy in our ailing world.
