Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
In the second reading of today’s mass, Paul has distilled the essence of the whole Gospel, which is God is love. God sent his son to show us what his attitude has been since the creation of Adam and Eve. Even when we are sinners that relationship with him has not changed, and if we respond, our saving process continues until we see him face to face.
In the Gospel today, Jesus, our Redeemer, exemplifies that message in the parable of the Good shepherd. The shepherd risks everything to find the lost sheep. The shepherd cares for all of his sheep, and they may manifest loyalty and affection for him, but he shows a special love for the one that has strayed. It is expressed in joy.
From the human point of view this attitude argues how unreasonable God is. The Sacred Heart of Jesus exemplifies this fact. It is the symbolic manifestation that God is kinder, more loving than human beings because his love goes beyond reason. Today I shall pray for a deeper devotion to the Sacred Heart and for those lost souls who promise to bring him joy.
