Tuesday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Expectation is a beautiful human sentiment. We envision something that can happen and we long for its fulfillment. A reunion with a loved one is perhaps one of the strongest hopes that people carry in their hearts. But, do we have that same sense of longing for Jesus?

There are many images of God patiently waiting for us to be with him or to return to him. Do we reciprocate? A relationship, after all, is a two-way street.

As Christians, we live in a state of “already but not yet.” That’s to say, God is with us already, but the encounter that will come in the afterlife or at the second coming of Christ is not yet here. Do our hearts long for this encounter? Are we expectant and ready? Will we be able to reciprocate the great love that is shown to us?

Let us cultivate that relationship of love and thus be ready for the Lord.
