Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent

The prophet proclaims in our first reading (Is 40:25-26): “to whom can you liken me as an equal? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these things.”

Who do you think you are? Do you think that your sins and your dumb choices, are worth more to God than the life of his own Son who, even now, has lept from his eternity to come to save you through the womb of a young Virgin? No. If the eternally begotten Son comes this far to save you, and is willing to go to the very ends of creation to save you, how can your mediocrity be worth more?

This Advent, let us hope in the greatness of this Lord, and not consider our mediocrity greater than his majesty. Let us, instead, go to the One who comes, who offers us his rest (Mt 11:28-30). For “they that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint” (Is 4:31).
