Monday of the First Week of Lent
The lesson in today’s Gospel is a follow-up on yesterday’s reflections.
Jesus alone can judge me because he alone has saved me. He’s the shepherd that gives his life for his flock. He is the one savior; so, at the end of time, he will gather together all the sheep of his flock. Meanwhile, he teaches me to love others as he loves them.
What he requires me to do he has already done; always he shows himself attentive to others, particularly the suffering, those in need of help. I’ll study today’s Gospel. Then, before each person I encounter today, I’ll try to reflect that same attention, that same love.
During these days of Lent, I’ll focus particularly on what Jesus said:
“I was hungry… as often as you did for the lest of my brothers…” Doesn’t that mean I should be more attentive to those I deal with every day? I’ll ask the Lord to teach me to pay more attention to them; to hear their unstated pleas.
So much of this is concentrated in what God said to Moses in the 1st reading: “Be holy, for I, the Lord, am holy.” Lord Jesus, send me your Holy Spirit to form me more in the likeness of our Father.
