Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Easter
In today’s gospel, Jesus is described as crying out as he speaks. What does this mean? Crying out often implies raising our voice to speak and doing so with great emotion that comes from the heart. It evokes the attention of listeners both near and far. Christ’s words are of light, salvation and eternal life that flow from the Father to all those who hear.
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear of how the word of God continued to spread and grow. It was the same word that the apostles heard directly from Jesus, which they preached to the early Church, which was handed down from generation to generation to us. Thus, we are connected to that very moment in history when Jesus cried out, exclaiming his words of light and salvation. And in hearing them, we gain eternity.
Through our words and through out actions, may we make of others listeners to the word that Jesus exclaims from the depth of his heart. May the word of God continue to spread and grow.
