Saturday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel, much like in today’s world, the threat of death lurks about. The Pharisees want to eliminate Jesus because of his many wonders. Today, the pandemic continues to have the potential of eliminating a significant part of our population. This, of course, is only one of the many threats against the fullness and dignity of human life in our world.
And yet, there is hope. Jesus went about curing those who followed him. Nurses, doctors and so many others go about attempting to cure those who have been infected. Countless others provide healing and relief to hearts in distress.
Today, on the memorial of St. Camillus de Lellis, patron saint of hospitals, nurses, and the sick, let us pray for all those who are in need of healing and all those who lovingly give of their lives to offer healing and comfort. May Jesus, our hope be with them.
