Saturday of the Second Week of Lent
“The Lord is kind and merciful”
We end our week with one of the Bible’s most famous parables: the prodigal son. In light of our Scriptural reflections this week, we see contained in this parable some key themes from this week: mercy, humility and trust, and pride. These traits are woven into today’s Gospel in multiple ways: within the parable itself, at the start of the story where and with whom Jesus is at table, and also in how the parable invites the reader – you and I – into a certain way of being in light of these themes presented in the story. As we prepare to enter the 3rd week of Lent, let us pray today with the Gospel, asking the Lord to show us where mercy, humility, and pride appear in the story and how we can draw spiritual profit from how we see the Lord teaching us about these themes in our prayer. Which one of the traits is the Lord inviting us to consider more, and how does our prayer and this Gospel passage teach us one way to transform our hearts in light of what the Lord is telling us?
