Saturday in the Fourth Week of Ordinary Time
After all the plotting against Jesus failed, the priests and Pharisees left the Temple and “each went to his own house” (Jn. 7:53). From the beginning, they had no union or agreement on what they were supposed to do—hence why the attempt to arrest Jesus failed. Ultimately, sin cannot unite. Satan is a good tactician, and would rather divide and conquer.
The attitude of the priests and Pharisees can serve as a good examination of conscience. All they had were complaints against one person. What are your own attitudes right now? Are there figures in the Church or the world you enjoy attacking alongside others? Is the only thing keeping you with these others your shared complaints? If so, bring this to the Lord, and ask Him to set you free from these attitudes this Lent.
