Memorial of Saint Martin of Tours, Bishop

The triumph of good over evil cannot be observed because it is an internal triumph.  It is a realignment of our innermost parts, of what scripture calls the heart, the kidneys and the bowels.  When all that is deepest within us is of one accord with the will of God, then good has triumphed over evil.  Then true justice has arrived, even though it’s invisible.  Things look the same, but the kingdom of God has come.

When Jesus was still walking on this Earth, he used to say that the coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed, but He would add that the kingdom of God is already among us.  This is how He would point us, indirectly, to Himself, the kingdom of God incarnate.  By having Christ the King with us, we have the kingdom of God among us.  All goodness reaches its maximum.  God’s kingdom, invisible in itself, becomes visible in the incarnate Christ.  That is why we long to see Christ with the eyes of faith.

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola is a way of opening the eyes of faith, if God so chooses.  You try to see the Lord with your own imagination, and you ask for the grace of truly seeing Him, and you wait for God to act.
