Thursday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Overlooking the city of Jerusalem, Jesus weeps and foretells her destruction. “If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes,” He says. It is a lament that comes out of the love He feels and the suffering that ensues from not being able to see the Prince of peace that comes to give his life that all may live. “You did not recognize your time of visitation,” He adds.
Every morning when we arise is full of promise: the miracle of life, the wonder of love, joy, healing and peace. The latter is highlighted in today’s gospel. Is peace something that comes easily to our hearts, or is it elusive or altogether absent? Each day is a time of visitation.
May we make our hearts and our eyes receptive to seeing Christ who gives us everything, his love, his pardon, and his peace.
